My family started this site to honor the memory of my best friend, Lucky, and to help all of you who need more information on canine cancers. When Lucky was first diagnosed with cancer, I had a very hard time finding the information I was seeking. We hope this site will help those of you who seek answers, find them in times when it matters most.
Lucky was a Black Labrador who lived a full and happy life, having survived cancer once. He was 10 1/2 when he was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. We found a small tumor in his nose when he began sneezing often, sometimes expelling a small mist of blood. We were VERY lucky that we caught this before it reached the bone or he would have died from it. This cancer causes horrible deformations when in the face and the dog almost always has to be put down once it reaches the bone.
You can see in the picture below that he lost most of his nose from the surgery but he survived!

At the time, we were unable to afford the surgery. We were very fortunate to have found the Brown Dog Foundation. They covered the majority of the costs. Thanks to them and some special friends who also helped out, Lucky lived an additional 2 1/2 years. We lost our precious Lucky to liver cancer on November 22, 2011. He was 13.
Today cancer is everywhere. Canine cancer affects 1 out of every 4 dogs. Half of those that get cancer will die from it. For dogs that reach the age of 10+, the number who will get cancer jumps to 50%. Cancer in dogs is nearly identical to cancer in humans. Veterinarians are working hard to find a cure.
